The China (Hubei) Pilot Free Trade Zone was approved by the State Council in March 2017 and launched on 1 April 2017. Its implementation scope is 119.96 square kilometres across three areas: Wuhan 70 km2 (including the 5.41 km2 Wuhan East Lake Comprehensive Bonded Zone), Xiangyang 21.99 km2 and Yichang 27.97 km2.
